Our typical hunt days start around 930am, with a brief meeting and safety talk with your guide. From there we will load hunters onto a bus and head out to begin hunting at 10am. (Start time depends on what YOU want, but 10am is legal shooting time in SD). Your guide will take you to your first spot and go over that fields game plan. Around noon, you will be taken back to the lodge for lunch (or field lunch depending your package). After lunch we will take you back out and work on finishing your limit! Most hunts are wrapped up in the early afternoon, we will set the pace depending on your groups speed. When done hunting, time for pictures and more fun! You can enjoy spending time on the property, shooting clays, or enjoying you favorite drink by the fire. The evening finished off with a home cooked meal!
You can expect to hunt a little of every type of cover that SE South Dakota has to offer. CRP native grasses, food plots, tree lines, grass draws, and cattail sloughs. As the season progresses, we will switch or tactically to follow where the birds are!
What about safety? Its #1! We are all out here to have a fun time and harvest birds; but that can't be done without everyone being safe. Every hunter and guest will be required to sign a liability waiver upon approval. Every group will go through a brief safety meeting before hitting the field. Eye protection is required (and provided), hearing protection is recommended. Muzzle control, unloading firearms when not actively hunting, not shooting low birds (or ground birds), watching for blockers, etc; are all preached and enforced here. No bird is worth someones safety, and of course the dogs safety. Listen to your guide, they know what they're doing! There is ZERO tolerance of mixing alcohol and firearms! If you want to start drinking early, that's fine! Gun gets cased for the day first!!
Yes! We understand that many of us wouldn't feel right chasing birds if our pup was at left at home!! Make sure your dog is up to date on shots and vaccines. We have kennel space available to keep them when not hunting. We do ask you be mindful of your dog in the field and how it may be affecting the group's hunt; even the best dogs can get overwhelmed when hot on birds. Please let us know if you have a starting dog or one that needs some work, we can get them out one-on-one after some birds. Females in heat are NOT allowed for obvious complications. If your female would come in while visiting, we will have a private kennel setup for her to avoid any males fighting etc.
Non-Residents, 18+, will need to purchase their small game license (approx. $120), along with a SD Habitat Stamp ($25). Youth, under 18, need a youth small game license ($10), and are not required to purchase the habitat stamp. It is the hunters responsibility to acquire the correct license, but we will gladly answer any questions to help! We can also help you purchase your license online when you arrive, before the hunt starts.
If your hunt package includes meals with your lodging here's a few things you can expect. Full breakfast and coffee bar, snacks and beverages on the bus, lunch buffet back at the lodge, appetizers after the hunt, and a special supper to top it off. You can expect home raised eggs, locally grown meats and steaks, fresh fish and seafood when available; and many home grown extras to go with each meal! Your basic beverages will be provided at the lodge and during the hunt. Alcoholic beverages are not included for most packages, but don't be surprised if there's some basic drinks stocked already. Guests are welcome to bring their favorite drinks! Please let us know ahead of time of any special food requests, drinks, allegory requirements, etc!
A 10% deposit within 14 days of booking is required. An additional 40% is required 30 days prior to your hunt dates to ensure your reservations. Final payment due upon arrival or prior. Deposits are non-refundable, we do allow for the deposit to be rescheduled within 1 year of original booking date. Rescheduling for the current season is acceptable, assuming openings are available. If the group size or hunt days are reduced, total deposit amount cannot be applied to the final amount.
Gratuities are not built into our pricing. Our guides and other staff strive to make your SD hunt experience as special as possible! Please keep in mind the extra miles our guides and their dogs will go through to make sure your game bags are full. Both guide and dogs will bust the thickest cover so you don't have to! As well as the year round care, training, vet care, and feed costs that go into keeping these hunting machines going! Tips can be handed directly to your guide or staff member, or given to an owner to be divided between the staff.
We have a few different options to help you remember the special time you will have when visiting South Dakota.
